What makes a good leader? Character, Faith, Integrity, Strength.
A healthy prayer life?
Nehemiah had received terrible news in regards to the walls of Jerusalem.
Nehemiah 1:4 When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven.
In verses 5-11 we can read Nehemiah's prayer to God. He glorified God, asked for God's ear, confessed sin of himself and his people, asked for specific help, knew God's promises and asked to receive their blessing, asked God to prepare the way.
I desire a prayer life as beautiful as the one I picture here. When I come to my knees and truly humble myself before God. How often do you pour your heart out to God? I know I don't do it enough. When I hear bad news, I mourn, I plan and then I try and fix it on my own. I know, I know better than that. But still, after years of God's faithfulness in my prayer life, I often forget to go to that place first.
Sometimes, I will admit to you, I am afraid to take my requests to God. What if He really answers? What if He really prepares the way for me? What if I confess and really have to change? Am I ready for the move God wants to make in my life?
Father~ Pour into me the Words from Nehemiah's prayer. Remind me of your faithfulness to your promises. Build in us a spirit of leadership. Remind me Lord that if I go out and make disciples, as you have commanded, I am in a place of leadership. Bring me to a place of vulnerable worship and prayer. Give me a spirit of reliance on your way and your plan. I love you Father. ~ In Your Holy Name.
