Champion of the Oppressed
by Heather Collver
Dirty rich, what a term. I am thinking that this term relates to the type of people that Micah condemned in the name of the Lord. Those who exploited the poor disgusted him.
Again, Micah is not sugar coating God's judgement in Micah 2:2
When you want a piece of land,
you find a way to seize it.
When you want someone’s house,
you take it by fraud and violence.
You cheat a man of his property,
stealing his family’s inheritance.
Micah knew that authentic worship consisted of following God's will and dealing justly with others. Micah felt strongly about those who cheated and bribed others. This even included other priests and prophets.
In our culture there are countless people who exploit the poor. There are also numerous people who protect them. Because evil is among all mankind, we must look to what we can do for those that are suffering, those who are less fortunate than ourselves. The poor does not always have to be those who are lacking money. As a Christian, we are all rich because we have the inheritance of the Lord. We have the salvation given to us by Jesus Christ. SO the poor can be anyone who is weak in faith, finances, health, etc. How can you personally make a difference in the life of the poor? What ways can the poor find God's love and grace in this world? Take action today, do something that helps those who are weak, the poor, they are among us, in multitudes.
Dear Lord, I know that the poor will always be among us, for Jesus himself said those very words. Help us to see where we may be causing them to be exploited. Give us the knowledge we need to be a part of the cause to help the poor. Don't let us leave others behind, so that they never know you. In their weakness, you can make them strong. Help us to strengthen them, to give them hope in you, through our reflection of you.
Please continue to pray for Kim H. this week along with Stacy M. Thank you.
Carry each other"s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2
Women of Worship is a group of men and women with a desire to express love for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We hunger for God's word, support one another in prayer and desire a closer relationship with Him.
Heather and I feel that God has put a genuine desire in our hearts to share His word with people. This blog is our attempt to get the Word of God to our friends in a practical and loving way. We are hoping to create a community of people that strengthen one another for the Kingdom of God. No matter where you are in your walk you are welcome here. Please feel free to share prayer requests, opinions, questions or anything that you feel led to say.
