Anger Day 3
Anger- The Spirit response
I am learning a lot this week about how God will use us. One thing I have learned is that if we have anger towards someone and we are stewing over it, our relationship with God will take a time out until we can make it right again. It is at this time that the following information will help us to "do the right thing". The rebel that I am wants to find a way to tell you that it is okay to be angry. But I have learned differently through this study and for a good reason. I guarantee you that God has dealt with me in this area many more times than I would truly be able to extend patience on another human being. So it is about time that I take the following very seriously. How about you? Should we pray first.
Dear Lord,
It is you that we want to be like the most. It is your Spirit that resides in us. We thank you for that gift and apologize for mistreating our relationships and the grace you have given us when we have been angry. Anger is mentioned in the Bible so many times and defined in so many ways, there must be a reason that we find ourselves practicing this confusing emotion from time to time. Will you help us to understand it's usefulness, it's reason in the big picture. Help us to see the warning signs before we are completely filled with rage and wrath. Help us to remember your Word so that it is written on our hearts and will grow patience, peace and understanding in the heat of the moment. Help it to guard our tongues and our hearts and especially our actions. Lord, if this is not something we struggle with, please help those that we know who are struggling in this area. How can we be here for them? It is in Jesus Name that we ask these things. Amen.
Today, I really don't need to say anymore. Will you please read these verses, God's Word, and commit them to your heart?
Ephesians 4:31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior.
Colossians 3:8 But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language.
Galatians 5:18 But when you are directed by the Spirit, you are not under obligation to the law of Moses.
19 When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, 21 envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

2 Corinthians 7:11 Just see what this godly sorrow produced in you! Such earnestness, such concern to clear yourselves, such indignation, such alarm, such longing to see me, such zeal, and such a readiness to punish wrong. You showed that you have done everything necessary to make things right.
Matthew 5:22 But I say, if you are even angry with someone,[a] you are subject to judgment! If you call someone an idiot,[b] you are in danger of being brought before the court. And if you curse someone,[c] you are in danger of the fires of hell.[d]
Psalm 37:8-9 Stop being angry! Turn from your rage! Do not lose your temper— it only leads to harm. 9 For the wicked will be destroyed, but those who trust in the Lord will possess the land.
Romans 12:19Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say,
“I will take revenge; I will pay them back,”[a] says the Lord.
“I will take revenge; I will pay them back,”[a] says the Lord.
Please continue to pray for Kelly M. this week and don't forget to send a prayer and praise for Friday( testimonies are great also)

I am curious, if we are to use Jesus as our example He got angry. He was so angry at the merchants in the temple that he premeditately attacked them with a whip. (I say premeditated because I am sure he didn't carry the whip with him but had to go get it). It seems that there are times that we have to be spurred by our anger to move to change. I have also seen good Chrisitans completely change and grow closer to God because they have gotten angry at a situation and created change in their lives and the lives of others. In both situations there was never bitterness or a carrying on of the anger so that it depressed. Isn't this anger in Spirit?
Good points......never thought of it like that. Perhaps Jesus wasn't angry. Frustrated, disappointed, embarressed....and maybe those feelings led him to his disciplines. Just a thought.
I love how you mention that Jesus was disciplining.
In this weeks devo we have been learning that it isn't the feeling of anger that is wrong but the action of anger.
I agree that Jesus was discipling. If we look at the scripture in John 2:13-16 Jesus left and took the time to actually make the "scourge of cords". He was making the only point he could that the merchants would understand. Sometimes confrontation needs to be done in dramatic ways. Most of our examples of Jesus and confrontation are peaceful and intellectual.
There certainly is something about this particular situation that required a physical discipling.....
